#Chapter 25: Evasion

I hurried down the street and down the stairs to the subway. I checked the arrival schedule and hurried to catch the train that was just now pulling into the station. The train rumbled to a stop just as I reached the platform. The screech of metal on metal was jarring. I got on and sighed as the door closed. As it pulled out of the station, I found a seat near the window, the world outside blurring into a kaleidoscope of shadows and colors. My mind raced, replaying the conversation with Mom and the looming threat of Lorenzo. I wasn't looking forward to the paperwork that awaited me.
As the train gained speed, I glanced out the window, my gaze scanning the train. A surge of adrenaline shot through me as I spotted him – one of Lorenzo's men, his face a mask of cold indifference. He was heading toward my side of the car, his eyes scanning the crowd with a predatory intensity.
