Three days later, Caesar's meetings finally wrapped up. He rubbed his aching temples and switched on his phone, which had been off for days.
A flood of messages poured in—over 99 from Sabrina, and just one from Jasmine.
Instinctively, he tapped on Jasmine's chat. It was a single payment notification.
"Transfer: $500,000.
"Note: Half a month's rent and medical bills."
Nothing else. Not a single word.
Caesar's brows furrowed so tightly he nearly laughed in disbelief.
His fingers flew across the screen as he typed, "You think I need your money? What do you think we are, that you're keeping scores like this?"
After hitting send, he stared at the screen for ten minutes.
Usually, Jasmine replied instantly whenever he texted, but this time, the chat remained eerily silent.
He called her directly.
"I'm sorry, the number you have dialed is powered off…"
The mechanical female voice crackled in his ear.
Caesar froze. Was she still asleep?
