CHAPTER FIFTY
"Have you ever had to prove that she was your mate?" Victor's voice pulled Ruby out of her thoughts.
She gazed at him as a sinister look marred his face, daring Noah to tell him the truth.
But Noah's gaze only grew angrier. "That does not concern you, Victor. Know your place."
"And by the goddess, I do know my boundaries. I worry not out of spite but for the pack and its safety. Have you slowed down to think about where she came from? Why did she run from her pack? No wolf is without a pack, so she definitely came from somewhere."
The back-and-forth argument was getting to Ruby. The side of her head ached as a migraine began to form. Her heart panged in her chest at the dispute her presence had caused. How stupid was she to think that the pack would accept her just because she was Noah's mate. Pain pierced her heart as she fought to hold back the tears beginning to form in her eyes. Her wolf also shared in her sorrow. She was grateful for Noah standing up for her, but at what cost?
