After Evelyn's not-so-subtle reminder, the smile that had been lingering on Rebecca's face instantly stiffened, replaced by an awkward flush.
She originally thought Evelyn couldn’t possibly catch such small details.
Turns out, she was too naive. Evelyn asking her to call her Mrs. Everett? That was clearly drawing a line—Julian was her husband, period.
Rebecca was fuming inside.
Still, she forced herself to keep it together.
With an awkward smile, she lowered her stance a little. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I hope you don’t take it the wrong way.”
Even so, she still couldn’t bring herself to say the words "Mrs. Everett." No way she was giving Evelyn that satisfaction.
Evelyn exited the app, casually spinning the phone in her hand like she didn’t care one bit if it hit the floor and shattered.
On the screen was a photo—still that same kissing pic of her and Julian.
As Evelyn closed the WhatsApp window, the image flashed right across Rebecca's field of vision.
