The party was halfway through when Steven showed up. He walked straight to Evelyn and leaned in a bit, saying, "Emily brought Nathaniel with her." Evelyn's face instantly darkened. Clearly, the lesson tonight hadn't been harsh enough to make Emily back off. Julian was standing right next to Evelyn, so he naturally caught Steven's words too. His expression also turned a few degrees colder. "Where are they now?" Evelyn narrowed her eyes slightly as she questioned him. Steven replied in a low voice, "Right outside the ballroom. They haven't come in." Since Charles had booked the entire floor, only those with official invitations were getting in. Emily came in with George earlier, so that was fine. But Nathaniel was a new face—no way he'd be allowed in. Evelyn shot Steven a look and said under her breath, "Have someone keep a close eye on them." With a nod, Steven headed off. Evelyn pressed her lips together, her gaze returning to calmness. Julian leaned in closer, a low chuckle in his voi
