Scarlett's POV
"I'll wake you up once we arrive. Rest." I heard Lucien's voice, as soft as a cloud, as he carried me far away from Hollow Glen.
Although my eyelids were heavy, I couldn't seem to fall asleep. I was tired, but my mind was still racing and full of energy.
"I can't sleep," I admitted, my eyes still closed.
"Still thinking about the events earlier?" he gently asked, carrying me bridal style with one arm while patting my back to help me sleep.
Indeed. What happened earlier was something I never wanted to experience again. Although I had good mental health and could move on from things easily, what happened in that hut was still terrifying for me as a woman.
I knew I must act tough, prideful, and strong. I never wanted anyone to think I was weak, to believe I couldn't lead and command warriors, so even if I got hurt, I would just endure it. If anyone asked if it hurt or if I was okay, I would always say that I was. Because I didn't want anyone to see me as weak.
