After a moment of calming myself down and erasing what had just happened earlier, I scrambled to dress properly.
I wanted to help. There were rogues who were trying to invade the Nightshade.
As soon as Lucien vanished from the lake—his silver wolf tearing through the trees like death itself—I hurriedly emerged from the lake. My instincts screamed at me to run after him, to join the fight, to make sure he didn’t get hurt. But by the time I reached the hill that overlooked the western border, I was too late.
The warriors had already surged forward. Snarls rang through the trees like thunderclaps. The metallic scent danced on the wind.
I turned to follow—but before I could do so, Lucien’s voice stopped me.
“Go back to the pack, little wolf. This scene isn’t suitable for you.”
I looked up to find his direction.
There he was, standing, naked in the dappled sunlight, the tips of his dark hair wet and clinging to his forehead. His body was covered with blood—that clearly isn’t his. H
