Three days.
We stayed in this dense forest for three days. And in these three endless days of watching Lucien’s sweat through fevers, coaxing him to eat and drink, and sleep with him in the night to share warmth from him even though for the first time, he had suggested that he wants to sleep away from me because he doesn’t want his fever to latch on him.
But just as he was stubborn with himself, I, too, also didn’t listen to him.
In the fourth morning, I suddenly woke up alone and the hand that was supposed to be on my waist every morning that I woke up, was gone.
