Chapter 939
"Yeah!"
Lyla said proudly. "Isn't my mother beautiful? Isn't my father handsome?"
Cynthia nodded admiringly. "Hello, Aunty and Uncle."
Olivia touched Cynthia's head. "Good girl. Where are your parents?"
Cynthia looked down and shook her head. "They've abandoned me because of my illness. They already have a new family, and my mother just gave birth to my brother, so she rarely visits me now."
It upset Olivia.
Suddenly, Lyla shook Olivia's hand. "Mommy, come here. I want to say something."
Olivia leaned in and heard Lyla whisper, "Mommy, let's help her. Her grandma collects trash to pay for her treatment. She probably won't last much longer."
Olivia was happy that Lyla was so kind.
However, for some reason, she suddenly recalled Dorothy.
She pitied Dorothy back then, so she begged her father to help her. She even asked her mother to take her in as her daughter, but then what...
They went bankrupt. Their reputation was ruined. Their family was destroyed...
If you asked her if she regretted paying such a price for that momentary kindness, her answer was yes. She regretted it very much!
Therefore, she shook her head at Lyla.
Lyla was puzzled. "Why? Mr. Lucas is the hospital director. Isn't it a piece of cake to waive the fees for treatment and hospitalization?"
Olivia's expression instantly changed when she heard that. "Who taught you to say such a thing?"
Lyla bit her lip and said nothing.
It seemed there was more to the matter.
She looked up at John. "What do you think?"
John leaned over and picked up Lyla. "Someone must have found out Lyla's identity and deliberately taught her to say that."
"Yeah, I think so too."
Olivia looked down at Cynthia and said, "Where are your parents? Don't lie. Monsters will catch children who lie."
Cynthia was only a few years old. She burst into tears when she was told she would be taken by monsters.
"Mom taught me that. Mom told me to approach Lyla. She said Lyla's mom is friends with the hospital director. Then our fees will be waived... We don't have any money. My mom says she can't afford to spend any more money on my treatment because she has to take care of my brother when he is born," Cynthia cried.
Lyla's eyes instantly reddened when she heard this. "I thought you were my friend. Why did you lie to me? I would have asked Mommy for help if you'd just told me, but you lied!"
Mrs. Simmons happened to come over with Sam. Olivia motioned for John to hand over Lyla to Mrs. Simmons.
She reached out to wipe Lyla's tears. "Lyla, be good. Don't cry. Leave this to Mommy."
Lyla aggrievedly bit her lip and buried her face in Mrs. Simmons's arms without saying a word.
"Mrs. Simmons, take Lyla aside and wait for me."
"Yes, Miss."
After Lyla was taken away, Olivia's tone was a little cooler. "Cynthia, is your mother around? I'd like to talk to your mother."
Cynthia pointed ahead. "Mom's over there."
It turned out that Cynthia's mother was among the onlookers watching the whole ordeal.
How dare she do that?
She wanted to use Lyla to get a deal but was indifferent when Lyla was held hostage.
After Dorothy, Olivia had a deep hatred for such selfish people.
She went up and slapped her. "What kind of mother are you? You used a young child's sympathy to swindle her. Do you know what sincerity is? It's alright that you favor your son more than your daughter. It's eye-opening that you can be so snobbish and disgusting! It's alright that you're a bad person. Don't misguide children. Otherwise, you'll ruin their lives. Got it?"
If Dorothy's mother had not been someone who favored sons over daughters, money-minded, vain, and unscrupulous, Dorothy would not have turned out the way she was today.
