Cassandra glanced at the bookshelf and figured Tristan had only written notes in this particular book because it was within easy reach. The others were probably untouched.
She stood up and reached for one on the higher shelves.
The book she picked was just a little too high, so she jumped up to grab it. As soon as her fingers closed around it, she lost her balance and started falling backward.
Just as she thought she was about to fall, the expected pain never came. Instead, she found herself leaning against a solid, muscular wall.
She turned her head and saw Tristan behind her.
His brow was slightly furrowed, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you okay?"
A beam of sunset light fell across his face, casting one half of it in a golden glow. He looked both sharp and commanding from an angle. The other half of his face was veiled in shadow, his expression softened by the dim light.
Cassandra stared, momentarily stunned. It was as if God Himself had carved this man with his best too
