Aidan was convinced that Cassandra was faking it. He recalled that once, when he was in a rare good mood, he accidentally cut his hand while peeling fruit for her.
Back then, she had fussed over him for ages. How could she remain indifferent now, seeing him so badly hurt?
"Cassandra, I'm in pain," he announced weakly.
Finally, Cassandra reacted, but her expression was cold as she glanced down at him and said, "Then, go and see a doctor. Don't just lie there in the way."
Aidan frowned. He never imagined she would speak to him like that.
"Cassandra, I know you're just pretending," he said. "You still care about me, don't you? I've seen through this act of yours, and I realize just how miserable life is without you. Please, forgive me. Let's start over, okay?"
His voice trembled as he went on. Worse yet, his eyes reddened as if tears were about to fall. "I just can't live without you! Are you telling me all those years we shared mean nothing compared to just a few months with him?"
