Sylvia's POV
Caesar's deep voice came through the phone, carrying a hint of fatigue and amusement.
I paused what I was doing and glanced at the time in the bottom right corner of my computer screen.
"Aren't you busy today? How do you have time to pick me up?" I asked, clicking open another document and quickly scanning its contents.
"I planned ahead," he replied, his voice softening. "Too many unpredictable elements around lately. I don't like the thought of you heading home alone."
A warmth bloomed in my chest. I reached up, fingers brushing against my earlobe as my lips curled into a helpless smile.
"I still have to wrap up this proposal. Deadline's tomorrow."
"Then I'll just swing by and crash your office."
The line went dead before I could stop him.
"Caesar, don't—" I started, but all I got was a flat beep. I stared at my phone, then at the quiet office around me.
It was well past business hours, but a few diligent souls still pecked away at their keyboards. If Caesar showed up now
