Eleanor leaned in, scrutinizing every corner of the house. Every now and then, she nodded slightly in approval.
"This place is impressive. With a few touches, this could be the perfect home for you and Ambrose. But the deed will only have Ambrose's name on it!"
She collapsed onto the custom leather couch, bouncing slightly, a smug smile spreading across her face.
"Ma'am, marriage is something both people have to agree to," the officer said patiently, still trying to reason with her. "As parents and elders, we can't just force it. This isn't the old days anymore."
"Oh, I know," Eleanor replied cheerfully. "How could she possibly be unwilling? It's just a little spat between the two of them. And look, we even had to trouble you officers over something so small.
"Thanks for the hard work. Why don't you head back first? We'll sit down and talk it through ourselves."
Her demeanor flipped completely. She was suddenly cooperative and reasonable.
