She lost the baby. When Andrew found me, his dark eyes were heavy.
“Even if you hated her,” he said, his voice flat, “you shouldn’t have played with a child’s life.” Just like that. He sentenced me guilty.
“What if I told you she fell on purpose?”
“A woman gambling with her own child just to win?”
Anger, sharp and hot, twisted inside me.
“Your child deserves better than that kind of mother. I feel sorry for you.”He said.
Maybe it was the shock of seeing blood. Maybe it was the rage at Andrew. Whatever it was, pain ripped through my belly. Right there, in front of him, I started bleeding.
My body gave out. I crumpled to the floor. Before the darkness took me, I saw Andrew’s face – pure terror. I saw Bryant’s broke down. Voices fought, shouted, but they faded. Only Edward's voice cut through: “Louise. Wake up. You have a child now. I’m here with you.”
Ten days. That’s how long I spent fighting in the ICU.
