Megan couldn't stay here another second.
She pressed a hand against Howard's chest to push him away, but her body swayed unsteadily.
"Megan?" His brows knit tight.
She didn't answer.
Howard slid an arm around her waist and lifted her off the ground.
Megan felt her feet leave the ground. She tried to shove him off, but her limbs were too weak.
"You're drunk," he said quietly.
"Put me down."
Howard ignored her, took the heels from her hand, and carried her back toward the villa.
The walk through the stand of trees was short, but for Megan, the world tilted and blurred. Moonlight filtered through the canopy and spilled across his shoulders.
For a moment, she couldn't tell if this was tonight or years ago.
She really was drunk.
At the door, Howard pressed his thumb to the lock and set her down inside. When she steadied herself against the wall, he shut the door behind them.
