The entire city seemed drenched in rain, as if the sky had forgotten how to stop. Shaun and Selena drove Megan back to her rental. She had taken a cab earlier, so her car remained parked out front. "Do you want me to stay with you?" Selena asked, her voice tinged with concern. Megan shook her head. "I'm okay. You had a scare too. Go home, take a hot bath, and get some sleep. Don't get sick." Selena nodded. She was afraid she'd spend the night having nightmares and end up startling Megan anyway. "We'll head out then. Call me the instant anything comes up." Megan nodded with a smile, insisting she was fine. She lingered for a moment after their taillights vanished into the rain, then turned and walked toward the elevator, her steps heavy with exhaustion. ...
