They were adults. Howard knew exactly what Alyssa meant. But he just didn't have it in him. The divorce had only just gone through, and he wasn't in the mood for anything.
All he wanted was a break. In fact, he even felt a flicker of relief that he'd promised Evan he'd swing by PIH later.
"I told Evan I'd meet him," he said. "You're not feeling well. Go home and get some rest."
Alyssa pouted. "That's not an excuse, is it? Or are you still hung up on Megan?"
Her eyes grew watery as she pressed on. "If you don't want to be with me, then go to her. I think she'd still take you back."
Howard let out a long sigh and ran a hand through her hair. "Alyssa, I signed the divorce papers. That was me making a choice."
He pulled up Evan's text and showed it to her. "Just give me some time, alright? I need to adjust."
Guilt flickered across her face. "I'm sorry. I thought..."
"It's fine. Get some rest," he said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
She nodded, stepped out of the car, then paus
