"Meg—" Ronald began, his voice laced with concern.
"There are some things Howard hasn't told you yet," Megan cut him off. "It's not my place to say. He'll tell you himself."
A tense silence held for a few seconds. Then, Ronald asked, his tone wary, "Meg, is something serious happening between you two?"
Megan tilted her head back toward the faint stars, pausing to formulate her answer. "It's nothing. It's just better if he tells you himself."
Just as he had taken her to kneel at Ronald's hospital bed, the responsibility for this news—the divorce—had to rest with Howard.
