Elise's vision turned red with anger.
Samuel acted as if his forgiveness were something she should kneel and thank him for.
But who else could she blame? She was the one who'd started it all.
After taking a moment to push the pain down, she quietly said, "I'm not going back to Hilltop Manor—"
But the next thing Samuel said made it impossible for her to refuse.
"If you don't, then how are we supposed to discuss the divorce?"
Elise clenched her jaw so hard it hurt. She finally managed to squeeze out a single word. "Fine."
The line went dead immediately.
That was just like him—he always got what he wanted by any means necessary and never stopped until he did. Once he had it, though, he became cold and indifferent. He wouldn't waste another second.
Elise shoved her phone back into her pocket and rubbed her tired eyes. The frustration in her chest refused to fade.
