Even long after hanging up the phone, Harold remained furious.
"Dad…" Seeing his dark expression, Maddie hesitated before stepping forward. "I was the one who caused this mess, so I'll figure out a way to capture them and bring them back."
She was, after all, his own daughter. Thus, no matter how angry he was, Harold still reined in his temper slightly.
"What could you possibly come up with? In fact, you'll be helping by not making things worse."
Maddie's guilt only deepened. "Dad, I can fix this!"
Harold waved her off. "Even if we don't get them back, I have other options. Just stay out of it—and next time, listen to me."
Not wanting to continue the conversation, he turned and left.
