"You won’t believe who I ran into today."
Michael swirled his beer casually, watching as Ethan took a shot and completely flopped, leaving his cue ball in a sorry state.
"Who could it be? Another bunch of chain-smokers coughing up their lungs?"
"David showed up with Emma. They registered under my specialist slot."
Ethan watched the eight ball pathetically drop into the pocket but didn't even bother reacting. His face held that signature look of scorn, like he couldn’t care less.
"She’s got a congenital heart condition. Valve hemangioma, had a transplant five years ago. But it’s not looking great now... I recognized her immediately, and yeah, she knew me too. She asked me not to tell you anything."
"Hah, she’s overthinking it. I couldn’t care less when she dies." Ethan dropped the cue stick with a loud bang, the sound making the young ball boy nearby flinch.
