Chapter 28
“Emma! I already signed all the paperwork. You really should stay for observation—”
Ethan barged into the hospital room, clutching a stack of medical forms, only to freeze the second he stepped in.
David was already there.
No clue when he showed up, but he was bent over helping Emma change clothes, gently wiping her hands with a towel—like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“You—”
“I’m fine now, Ethan.” Emma’s hand was lightly resting on David’s shoulder, and just like that, he effortlessly scooped her up. Her petite frame looked like it was made to fit in his arms.
From the outside looking in, they were perfectly in sync. No cracks, no awkwardness. But for Ethan, it felt like the whole room dropped five degrees. He couldn’t even move aside from the doorway.
“You two—”
“Mr. Brooks, could you give us a bit of space?” David raised a brow, cool and calm.
“I need a word with Emma. Alone.” Ethan’s knuckles whitened around those papers. He didn’t step back—instead, he moved closer.
