Leila checked her wristwatch for the umpteenth time. Her nerves were frayed and she was losing her patience waiting in the car for someone she had no idea his whereabouts. Kelvin was still not here.
“How long have you been his driver?” she asked the man at the driver’s seat.
The chauffeur took off his hat and hugged it to his chest. She frowned at the bald patch on the middle of his scalp and the grey hair surrounding it. He had to be older than her parents.
“Too long to remember, really.”
“Hmm.” She said nothing more. She didn’t know how to make conversation with Kelvin’s staff. It was as if they had been given strict instructions not to engage her. “When did he say he would be ready to leave?”
“In a few minutes, ma.”
Leila blushed. “Leila. Please call me Leila.”
“I can’t do that, ma,” he replied without looking back.
