Claire was at a loss for words. Her face immediately turned pale, and it felt like someone sucked the life out of her, rendering her an empty husk.
"Divine Maiden, you have…" Ramona wanted to soothe Claire, but the latter simply waved and turned around. She looked lonely and abandoned as she walked away.
"Couldn't you have been a tad gentler? It wouldn't kill you to spin some well-intended lies," Ted grumbled. A hint of concern flashed in his eyes when he glanced at Claire's retreating figure.
"Are we supposed to keep lying to her for an eternity?" Perseus shook his head at the thought. "The more she gets her hopes up, the worse she'll feel when she learns the truth.
"Moreover, I'm not even sure if Grandpa is still alive. I haven't been lying to her. Instead, I've been deceiving myself."
"An eternity is too long, but at least she won't have to suffer for now…" Ted abruptly stopped talking before he asked again, "What? What did you just say?"
Ted's expression suddenly shifted.
