Heidi's makeup was flawless, and her veil was pristine white.
She looked more like a bride today than she had on the day she actually married Maverick two years ago.
That day, he had rushed off with Arabella in his arms, leaving her with only his retreating figure and a hall full of guests stranded in awkwardness.
"What are you spacing out for? Take your makeup off."
Nelson, back in his own clothes, pressed a makeup wipe against her eyelid and muttered, "Stop staring. Stare all you want, but you're still just a fake bride."
Heidi closed her eyes. "Yeah. Fake."
The affection in their wedding photos and the title of "Mrs. Cadwell" were all fake.
By the time they finished packing up, night had fully fallen.
Nelson was searching his phone for nearby restaurants when he stopped in his tracks. "Whoa," he said, nudging Heidi with his elbow. "Looks like someone's fighting to pay the bill."
