Chapter 22
Claire left her parents' house at six in the morning.
Normally, her dad would be out for a morning jog by then, and her mom would already be making breakfast. But today, both of them were still asleep—they’d only gone to bed around 2 a.m., totally drained.
She scribbled a note and stuck it on the fridge before heading out.
Disguised and unrecognizable, she slipped out of the neighborhood and grabbed a cab straight to Olivia James’s place.
When Olivia opened the door, her eyes were shadowed with dark circles.
“Lucas? He’s a freaking monster! Ugh, even that’s too kind!”
“And Fiona Morgan—with his mother? They’re absolute trash, all of them!”
Ever since Claire called her in the middle of the night and told her what had gone down, Olivia had been fuming. She looked like she was two seconds away from storming over and tearing them all apart.
Olivia was all fire and fury.
Claire, on the other hand, was strangely calm.
She stepped inside, swapped into slippers, and asked, “You got anything in
