Julian was a little caught off guard.
Then it clicked—she probably felt guilty and was trying to act more considerate.
Daniel slung an arm lazily over his shoulder and shot him a cheeky grin. “Our Claire's sharp, not the type to throw a tantrum.”
Julian shot him a cold stare. “Obviously. I know that better than anyone.”
If anything, he wished she’d be a little less strong.
He took his phone back and spoke into it gently, “No rush. Just find a hotel and lay low for now.”
“Even if they found you, it’s not all Olivia’s fault. My own planning was off too. Make sure she doesn’t blame herself, and don’t push yourself too hard. You can think things over on the way.” He paused, then added in a softer, lower tone, “I’ve got this. Just go with what feels right for you.”
On the other end, Claire felt her heart warm like it had just been kissed.
Soft. Sweet. A little tingly.
This kind of effortless tenderness was dangerously addictive.
“Okay,” she replied, her voice barely a whisper.
