He stood at the door and looked at me. His eyes said it all. After I left the hospital yesterday, he called me several times, and I never answered it.
We were going to have to talk about it sooner or later.
"Come in."I said softly. It was strange for me, seeing him here without his wheelchair. Though I had hoped he would recover, during the two years we were together, I had gotten used to it.
"Joy, you go to your room.”
I think the child sensed from my tone that I was serious, and a bit upset.
I poured him a glass of water, and the two of us sat on the sofa, silent.
Finally, he broke the silence. "Sarah, I'm sorry."
Actually, I don't blame him for anything. I just didn’t know how to say it. That he was right, that I’d stayed with him mostly because of his injured leg.
He’d done so much for me, I didn’t have the heart to tell him I felt nothing for him.
