Tobias' face twitched slightly. After a moment of hesitation, he turned around and crouched down in front of Kylie. "Get on."
"That's more like it," Teresa said, helping Kylie to her feet. "Go on."
Kylie didn't argue. She climbed onto his back without a word.
Teresa left once they got into the car.
On the way home, Tobias seemed to remember something. Eventually, he muttered in a somewhat defensive tone, "Just so you know, saving me back there doesn't mean I've accepted you. In my eyes, Ella will always be my sister-in-law."
Kylie gritted her teeth. Tobias had quite a mouth on him. No wonder he got beaten up.
She let out a quiet scoff. "I would've done the same even if it were a total stranger." Then, she turned to him with a look of thinly veiled disdain. "But if I'd known it was you, I'd have walked the other way without looking back."
