Dwane held my hand firmly as we moved with the music. His steps were steady, but I could feel the tension in him.
“I’m sorry about your father’s death,” I said gently. “I was his last patient.”
Dwane’s shoulders stiffened. “The one he tried to kill?” he muttered. “Then he committed suicide. It was… disgraceful.”
I swallowed. “Do you truly believe he committed suicide?”
He frowned at me. “Of course. He left a note. It explained everything.”
“And you are certain he wrote it?” I asked quietly.
His jaw tightened. We kept dancing so no one would notice the shift in our conversation. “What are you implying, Princess?” he asked under his breath.
“The Alpha Magmus I met did not seem like a man who would end his life so easily,” I said calmly. “He was proud. Strong and even unrepentant even when troubled.”
Dwane’s grip on my hand tightened slightly. “Then what are you saying?”
“I’m saying he may have been murdered.” My voice remained soft. “By someone he trusted.”
