Hours later, the room had settled into that strange hospital silence, too quiet to be comforting, too loud to ignore. The IV drip kept its slow, irritating rhythm. Drip. Drip. Drip. I stared at the ceiling, replaying every word Alpha Magmus had said earlier. Microcurrents. Helmets. Injections. Three months of being his experiment.
I must have dozed off at some point, because the faint click of metal made my eyes snap open. At first, I thought I was imagining it.
Then a shadow shifted near the window. My heart slammed violently against my ribs as the window eased open; slow, careful and deliberate. Someone slipped inside and closed it just as quietly, like they’d done this before. Moonlight spilled through the window, catching the familiar outline of a lab coat.
I pushed myself up on the bed. “Who…”
