I stood up with a sigh. "What is this, Hans? Back up a bit, you're drenched in sweat. Seriously, you've been at the company for years and haven't made any progress. This is your big chance! "Alright, alright, I'm not as ambitious as you. I'm happy just coasting by, getting my paycheck, and enjoying life. Don't try to pass your go-getter attitude onto me."
Hansel plopped down on the couch next to me, looking miserable.
"Mr. Webb, did you really quit?"
I nodded. "I've already talked to HR."
"But why?" he asked, clearly upset.
"I finally found a boss who's straightforward and easy to work with, and now you're leaving. What am I supposed to do?"
"You know," I said, patting him on the shoulder, "if you'd put in a bit of effort, you could be someone's boss too."
