Chapter 52 Play Hardball
Cameron drove back to the villa at top speed.
When Cameron placed Macie on the bed, she stirred awake and murmured, "Cam, did I cause you trouble?"
Cameron pulled the blanket up for her and said gently, "No. Just rest. Don't think about anything."
Macie nodded obediently and watched him leave. Once the door clicked shut, a smile tugged at her lips, a calculating glint flashing in her eyes.
For the next two days, she holed up in her room without eating or drinking. Mabel panicked and reported it to Cameron.
When Cameron heard about that, he frowned and dropped everything to rush home.
He knocked on Macie's door. "Macie, open up."
But there was no response.
He knocked again, but there was still no answer.
He was worried about Macie, so he took the spare key from Mabel and unlocked the door.
The lights were off, the curtains drawn tight, and the room was cloaked in darkness. Even so, he spotted Macie at once.
She was curled up in the corner, wearing only a silk slip. Her knees
