Chapter 1049 You’re Ugly, but You Have an Active Imagination
Bethany was stunned. She pointed at herself, then at Xavia, before asking, "With just the two of us? Imperium is a dangerous place. We have the key to the place, but what if…"
"Of course, it won’t just be the two of us," Xavia interrupted, smiling triumphantly.
"Who else will be helping us?"
"The new owner of Duskfall."
"Otto? Cyrus' son?" Bethany had heard about the changes in Duskfall through Vince. She looked at Xavia with a confused frown and asked, "Weren’t you abandoned by your organization like me?"
Xavia glared at her and said, "What do you mean abandoned? You were kicked out. We're not the same."
"What makes you think you're better off than me? You're also useless to Duskfall," Bethany retorted.
"Now isn’t the time to discuss this. Pack up, we're leaving now," Xavia said impatiently, annoyed that Bethany could not focus on the important matters.

An hour later, Xavia and Bethany meet up with Otto. Xavia excitedly handed over Imperium’s key and said, "We finally have an opportunity!"
Chloe would soon pay the price, and Xavia anticipated the satisfaction of witnessing Chloe's expression when she crushed and stepped on her mercilessly.
Otto took the perfect replica key and smiled at Bethany. "You've done well."
"What about Chloe?"
"I'll hand her over to you after everything is over. You can do whatever you want with her."
Looking at the dozens of heavily black-clad individuals in several off-road vehicles in front of her, Bethany felt a sense of unease. "Aren't we going to deal with Chloe? Why did you bring so many people?"
As if he had heard something amusing, Otto laughed heartily. "Hahaha! You might be ugly, but you sure have an active imagination. Did you really think Chloe alone is worth my intervention?"
What he wanted was to take down Imperium and become the largest gang in the country.
Bethany held her face and shouted grievously, "I'm not ugly! And I won't work with you!"
Yes, she hated Chloe, but she refused to join forces with those who wanted to harm Imperium. After all, Imperium was her home.
Otto narrowed his eyes and ordered, "Take her."
Two men immediately blocked Bethany's path.
Xavia stepped forward and said, "Listen, you have to come with us to Imperium. Once we take down the organization, maybe Joe will ask you to spare him."
"No! I'll always stand by Joe's side! I won’t betray him!" Bethany said as she felt a raging fire burning in her chest. She turned to Xavia and asked, "Don't you also love Joe? How could you do this to him?"
"I do love him, but does he love me?" Xavia hissed, her face contorting with anger and resentment. "You love him so much, but all he cares about is Chloe. He even kicked you out of Imperium. It's high time you faced reality, Bethany. The only way to find solace after what he subjected us to is to bring him down until he has no chance of redemption. We'll make him regret choosing Chloe over us and causing us pain!”
Bethany was startled, but she still shook her head firmly. "I won't do anything to betray Joe. You already have the key, so let me go."
Otto smiled at her. "If I let you go, how can I be sure you won't run to Joseph and tell him our plan?"
Bethany bit her lip and said, "Even if you don't let me go, I won't betray Joe."
"Are you sure? I'll give you one more chance."
Bethany was familiar with the structure of Imperium, so bringing her along would be very helpful to their operation. If she chose not to work with them, he would have no choice but to end her life.
"Yes, I won't betray Joe," Bethany replied firmly despite her fear.
From the moment Joseph had taken her from that orphanage, she had belonged to him.
Otto smirked as he gestured for the people around him to end Bethany. Following her brief cry for help, Bethany collapsed in a pool of blood. She covered the wound on her neck as she reached out to Xavia, pleading for help, but Xavia avoided her gaze and turned away.
As Bethany lost blood, she felt her consciousness was slipping away. The light in her eyes dimmed, and she recalled Joseph arriving at the orphanage many years ago. Having grown up in that orphanage, she had chosen to stay there even after reaching adulthood.
She thought of the magnetic pull she had felt toward Joseph as he asked, "Would you like to join Imperium?"
Bethany felt dizzy, and her chest heaved. She knew her knight in shining armor had arrived. Nodding shyly, she whispered, "Yes, I do..."
As she uttered those words, Bethany closed her eyes as she smiled.
