Chapter 1075 Congratulations on Becoming a Father

Chloe and Joseph got back to Docwood at ten o'clock at night. Vince had already saved Zoelle and brought her to the Whitman family home. Zoelle looked safe and sound but Vince's eyes were rimmed-red. Observing them, Chloe felt that the atmosphere between them was not right. "Sir, I’d like to ask for a few days off to handle Bee's funeral,” Vince requested. Hearing this, Chloe realized what was amiss. Vince went through so much to save Zoelle, and in return, she told him that his first love was dead. It was a cruel exchange. Joseph calmly answered, "Okay." "I'll be off now, sir." Vince had already reported on the kidnap situation when he first got here, so he did not have to stay any longer. After a pause, Joseph said, "Find a good place for her." Vince lost control of his tears at Joseph's words. He limped out of the house as fast as he could. As she expressionlessly watched Vince's back, Zoelle decided not to stay either. She thanked Joseph by saying, "Call me if you ever need my help." Joseph asked, "Are you sure it wasn't your enemy who had kidnapped you?" "I travel around the world, so how would I have enemies?" Joseph's expression turned solemn. "I know who it was now." "Okay, bye." Zoelle strode away. Chloe tugged at Joseph's sleeves as she was dying to know. "Who kidnapped her?" "Kenneth." This answer was beyond Chloe's expectations. She asked in puzzlement, "But why? Isn’t he trying to help Xavia escape? Why did he kidnap Zoelle?" "My guess is that Xavia was in Louis Town too when Kenneth called us and tried to find out where we were. He panicked and thought we were there to catch her, but he managed to figure out that we were just there for a vacation. It should be about time for Xavia to give birth, so it'd be inconvenient to move her to another place at the last minute." Chloe leaped to her feet, her eyes gleaming. "Kenneth was getting us to leave Louis Town so that Xavia could give birth with peace of mind.” Desmond was technically Callum's father-in-law, and Harold was the elder of the Whitman family, so Kenneth could not touch either of them. Noah, on the other hand, had been keeping to the Sullivan manor for his treatment, and it would have been difficult to kidnap him. Besides, Desmond might ask Callum for help if Noah were kidnapped. Kenneth would not have wanted to alert the elders and so chose to kidnap Zoelle after much deliberation. As for Emily, Lucas was protecting her. Besides, Chloe knew Emily well and would know if Emily had any enemies who wanted to kidnap her. "Exactly." Chloe frowned in confusion. "Why are you only telling me this now? We might’ve caught Xavia there and then." Joseph sighed and held her shoulders. "And what if we catch her? Yes, she's done some heinous crimes but what about her child? Can you bring yourself to punish the child?" Imperium would never stoop to harming a child, let alone a baby who was about to come to this world. Chloe's indignation subsided. "No… I can't…" She was not a saint, but she could not hate a child who was yet to be born. "We'll discuss this again after she's given birth." "Okay." * Two months later, Joseph and Chloe attended a night charity gala together. After some toasting, Chloe spotted Kenneth in the crowd. She gave Joseph a look, and the latter understood her immediately. He took her hand, and they walked toward Kenneth. Chloe faked a smile and said, "Congratulations on becoming a father, Ken."
