I didn’t know what was happening to Noah. He had shown up at my house late at night out of nowhere, and everything about him felt off. I could smell alcohol on him, but I knew he wasn’t drunk. I had seen him drunk before—this wasn’t it. He didn’t have a fever either, which made my thoughts spiral. Was he on something?
Though it seemed impossible, Noah wasn’t the kind of person who would engage in illegal or criminal activities—but the way he was acting right now was unsettling.
I didn’t want to argue with him. And I certainly didn’t have the mood or the energy to do anything intimate with him in his car.
After the New Year, I would leave San Francisco and return to Bakersfield. I planned to spend the holidays with Margareth and Liam because I didn’t know when I’d be able to see them again. The same went for Noah. Once I left San Francisco, there would be no chance for us to meet again.
