I knew Olivia had heard my question. She had simply chosen not to answer.
I let out a bitter laugh. Who else could it be, if not her husband—Liam?
I shouldn’t have asked her in the first place. All I did was ruin the mood and make myself miserable. I didn’t know why I kept doing this to myself, digging into things that only left me feeling worse. It was like I had a talent for self-sabotage.
But still… couldn’t she have pretended, even just for a moment? Couldn’t she have comforted me, even with a lie? She could’ve said she was eating alone. I would’ve accepted it. I would’ve believed it—or at least pretended to.
