Ethan had noticed over the past few days that Emma was always buried in her work, often sketching out designs in the study. Clearly, this woman wasn't just putting on a show—she took her job seriously.
"I heard there was a major mess-up in your design department not long ago," Ethan said coolly. "What's the issue—your department's capability or the manager's?"
Everyone instantly shut up. Emma just stared at him quietly, unsure what he was trying to get at.
Just then, Fiona squeezed over to her side, gently patting her back before whispering, "Hey, weren't you related to Ethan or something?"
"Huh?" Emma blinked, then remembered she'd once told a white lie claiming he was a relative after he drove her to work, just to avoid raising eyebrows. Thinking of this, she gave an awkward smile. "Yeah, kinda, but we're not that close."
