Sean seemed delighted. "I've finally managed to get in touch with you. I wanted to ask you if you were interested in graduate school."
Teresa hesitated. She had been ready to refuse, but after a moment's thought, she suppressed her doubts. "Yes."
"Are you interested in becoming one of my PhD students?" Sean asked.
Teresa said, "Mr. Jacques, I truly want to be your student, but I'm afraid that—"
She wasn't young anymore, and she didn't have any advantages over fresh graduates.
Sean chuckled. "That's enough. If you're interested, then there's a chance. There's less than three months until the admissions exam. Are you confident?"
Teresa recalled graduating at the top of her class. "I am, Mr. Jacques. I'll do my best."
"Good. I'll be waiting for good news. I'll save a spot for you."
Gratitude welled up in her. "Thank you, Mr. Jacques."
