As they ate, Luca outlined his plans for the day. "First," he said, his eyes twinkling with excitement, "we're going to visit the Boboli Gardens. Helena, you'll love it - there are fountains and statues and so many beautiful flowers. Then, we'll have a picnic lunch by the Arno River. And for dinner, I've made reservations at that new rooftop restaurant you've been wanting to try, Rebecca."
Rebecca nodded, trying to match Luca's enthusiasm but feeling as though she were watching the scene from outside her body. Every kind gesture from Luca felt like a knife twisting in her gut, reminding her of her betrayal.
