The bear, on its last breath, turned to the mountain and let out a final cry of agony before drawing its last breath.
Wilbur's gaze followed where the bear had last looked towards.
It took a while for Pembroke and the others to snap out of their stupor. The black bear was dead, and they were safe for the time being.
Pembroke and Mikael came up to Wilbur, staring at the dead bear shakily.
Wilbur turned to look at the dozen or so special forces officers dead on the ground. "I'm sorry. I didn't sense its presence myself."
"That's hardly your fault," Pembroke scrambled to say. "Thank goodness you got here in time, Deacon Penn. Who knows how many more deaths there would have been otherwise."
"Yes, thank you Mister… I mean, Deacon Penn," Mikael said as well.
Wilbur's timely appearance had pretty much saved the lives of over a hundred people.
None of them would have been able to survive the bear's terrifying power.
