The village chief's wife hung suspended in midair, directly above a massive pool filled with fish of various sizes. Their bodies were entirely black, a sight that made her stomach churn.
The fish seemed ravenous, leaping toward her dangling figure, their mouths snapping open to reveal razor-sharp teeth.
"If you lie during the questioning, the height will lower until you're completely submerged and devoured by these piranhas." Jared adjusted his sleeves casually, his tone calm. "You have two minutes to think it over."
For the village chief's wife, the two-minute reprieve was pure torment. Just moments ago, she had been resigned to dying, but now, doubt crept into her heart.
Jared waited patiently for the time to pass before signaling for the mechanism to start. "First question," he said.
"Who is the master you all speak of?"
The village chief's wife avoided Jared's gaze, knowing full well that no matter what she said, he would see through her lies.
