Chapter 9
The plane cut through the sky and disappeared into the clouds.
Cassandra stared out at the blue sky and bright white clouds, biting hard on her lower lip to force her mind away from the pain.
Her wounds were still bleeding. The agony rolled through her in relentless waves.
Just hold on a little longer. Once the plane landed, she would be free.
After she made it out of the airport, it felt as if she had spent a lifetime just dragging herself forward, one step at a time.
But the moment she reached the roadside, the shriek of a sports car braking tore through the air.
The car stopped squarely in front of her. She didn't even have time to look up before her strength gave out completely, and she crumpled to the ground.
Cassandra had just arrived in a new country, and now, she looked like someone trying to scam a driver. She wanted to laugh, but it hurt too much to even manage that.
Right before she slipped into unconsciousness, she caught sight of the emblem on the hood.
