The first one to lose his composure was Christopher.
That night, Christopher and I had just returned from a party when we noticed Zachary standing beneath the streetlamp. As usual, he held an unchanging bouquet of white roses.
As soon as I got out of the car, fireworks—like rainbow-colored bursts—suddenly lit up the sky behind me.
Christopher, in self-inflicted torment, watched the video of Zachary proposing to me over and over again.
Being young and naive at the time, I was blown away by the brilliant fireworks and joyfully accepted Zachary's marriage proposal.
The moment he noticed that I was distracted by the fireworks, the already insecure Christopher finally stormed up toward Zachary and launched into a full-blown brawl out of resentment.
