But Nona didn't react. Instead, she walked to the dining table and sat in my seat, saying in a simpering voice, "I haven't had breakfast yet."
"Prepare another portion for her. Move the madam's meal over here," Dominic Hawthorne said coolly, instructing the maid.
As soon as he finished speaking, I noticed Nona's hand under the table clench into a white-knuckled fist, the blue veins stark against her skin.
Though I didn't understand what Dominic meant, I walked downstairs with feigned nonchalance and sat beside him, watching the maid bring over my breakfast.
I sat side by side with Dominic, eating my breakfast as if nothing had happened.
The maid quickly served another breakfast.
Nona didn't touch her food. She spoke first. "Lydia, since Dominic and I have chosen to forgive you, it's mostly because you were selected by Grandma and Keaton Hawthorne. We don't want to make things difficult for them."
