CHAPTER FORTY FOUR – A MATCHMAKER
Later that evening, Mara was walking along the promenade deck, enjoying the cool sea breeze, when she heard footsteps behind her.
"Quite the performance earlier," Cassius' voice came from behind her. "I didn't realize matchmaking was part of your job description."
Mara turned to face him, a wry smile on her lips. "Your sister can be very... persuasive."
Cassius chuckled, moving to stand beside her at the railing. "That's one word for it. I hope she's not taking advantage of your kindness."
"It's fine, really," Mara assured him. "I don't mind helping out."
They stood in companionable silence for a moment, watching the moonlight dance on the waves. Then Cassius turned to her, his expression unreadable.
"You know, Mara, you're much more than just an assistant. I hope you realize that."
