Samson wasn't entirely convinced when Samuel said he wasn't waiting for Shelmaine. He lit a cigarette and settled into his chair, looking at Samuel skeptically. He could indulge in his vices a little while Caitlyn was not around.
As he puffed smoke leisurely, he asked, "So what's your plan? You've got someone new, but you're not giving her any official status? What, are you still holding out for Shelmaine?"
Samson didn't dare mention the divorce papers Shelmaine had filed, knowing it could set Samuel off. He thought that it was best to ease into it.
But Samuel didn't respond. His silence stretched on, the tension in the room palpable.
Samson furrowed his brow, clearly growing impatient. "Come on. Don't tell me you're some lovesick fool, stringing one girl along while waiting for another?"
Still, Samuel remained silent, smoking one cigarette after another, a cloud of gloom hanging over him like a permanent shadow.
"What's going on with you?" Samson pressed. "What's your real plan
