Shelmaine didn't even have the energy to vent anymore. The cigarette in her hand was taken away, and Samuel stubbed it out in the ashtray, his eyes filled with anger as he stared at her.

Samuel kept his gaze fixed on her. "Shelly, I didn't come to argue. I came to make things right, to apologize. If you're angry, yell at me, hit me—I won't complain. But don't hurt yourself.
"What did I do to hurt myself?" Shelmaine paused, her tone impatient. "And I don't need your apologies. Stop wasting your time here."
"Don't be so heartless, please. I know I messed up. At least give me a chance to make things right. I'll do anything you want."
