Chapter 421

Shelmaine remembered it now—such a thing had happened indeed. Yet, it was because Samuel had deliberately made things difficult for her. He didn't let her sleep until she agreed. In the afternoon, they still went to try on wedding gowns. The staff had carefully handpicked some pieces, none of which were cheap. Shelmaine had never imagined herself having a wedding with Samuel, let alone trying on wedding gowns in his presence. The suits for the groom never stood out as much as the bride's wedding gowns. After all, the center of attention during a wedding was always the bride. Samuel was extremely generous in his spending. He even flew in the latest pieces from foreign designers for Shelmaine to try on. Only then did she realize that he had been planning this wedding for quite some time—he had even prepared the wedding gowns in advance. She tried on a few gowns and found them to be decent. As she was trying them on, he snapped a few photos of her from the back. He then sent them in the group chat, showing off a little as he asked, "How's that? Beautiful, isn't she?" The group chat consisted of Luke, Samson, and a few others. Samson even added Caitlyn to the group chat. Naturally, they were full of flattering compliments—what else could they say? "Beautiful. She's absolutely gorgeous. She's the prettiest bride in the world!" "What a shame the groom's sort of underwhelming. They're not quite a match." "Yeah, she should change the groom." At some point, they started poking fun at Samuel instead. He sneered at his phone and ignored them. He continued gazing at Shelmaine, who was discussing measurements with the staff. It seemed that the gown didn't fit Shelmaine snugly as her figure was too slender. It would have to be altered to fit her better. As she actually wore the gown, the surreal feeling washed over her. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment to have a wedding—although she had already been divorced once. Seeing the hint of melancholy on Shelmaine's face, Samuel put his phone down and approached her. He wrapped his arms around her waist as his legs brushed against her gown. Lowering his head to rest on her shoulder, he whispered, "You're gorgeous. You're my most beautiful bride." As she snapped back into reality, he tilted her chin to make her look at their reflection in the mirror. He was already wearing a suit, which matched her gown perfectly. He smiled, looking as stunning as ever. His dashing and loving figure filled her vision. Shelmaine recalled how blind she had been when she mistook him for a chauffeur back then. What a shame for someone so good-looking! She had even assumed he was from a struggling family that had to take up such jobs to make ends meet. How could this distinguished gentleman ever be just a chauffeur? "What's on your mind? Lost in thought again?" Samuel asked. Shelmaine snapped out of her thoughts and replied, "I was thinking about when you were my chauffeur." "Oh?" he chuckled. "I'll always be your chauffeur, then. How about that?" She didn't answer and turned to the staff instead. "This one's alright. I'll have this." Shelmaine didn't find the gown beautiful, nor did she particularly like it. It was just "alright" to her. Samuel tried to analyze the emotions hidden within her words. He said, "There are still plenty of gowns you can choose. Take your time." "There's no need. I'm heading back to Amberward." She was tired of picking out gowns. She headed back into the fitting room and changed out of the gown with the staff's help. When she stepped out, he started comforting her, thinking he must have somehow upset her again. She merely replied, "I'm not upset. Thank you—you've already done more than enough."
