“He came to talk about compensation,” Adrian Bennett said casually, still fiddling with that potted flower. He glanced at Anna Green, who was frowning in thought, and gave a small laugh. “Don’t overthink it. I’m totally fine now. It’s not like I’ve lost a leg or something.”
“Ugh, don’t jinx it! That’s such bad luck!”
Anna hadn’t taken it too seriously to begin with. Adrian’s light-hearted tone made it hard to keep bringing it up, so she quickly switched topics, trying to lift his spirits a bit.
Adrian wasn’t super chatty, but his perspective was wide. He always seemed to pick up on the right things to talk about.
Hearing him talk about life abroad had Anna practically starry-eyed. She leaned on one hand, practically sighing with envy. “Man, the world out there sounds really amazing. I seriously wanna see it for myself someday.”
“When that day comes, I’ll take you with me. How about that?” Adrian looked at her, eyes bright, his tone half teasing, half serious.
